He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Barb Leonard, daughter, Dawn Spires and her husband Joel of Killeen, Texas, son, Scott Leonard of Houston, Texas, granddaughter Nicole Spires Wansley and her husband Jeremy of Tyler, Texas, great grandsons Aedyn and Mason Wansley of Tyler, Texas, sister Susan Hughes of Williston, North Dakota, sister Carla Hermann of Tacoma, Washington, brother Clark Leonard of Portland, Oregon and several nieces and nephews.
Including his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Michael Leonard, sister Kay Casey and her husband Tim and her son Tim of Portland, Oregon, grandfather, Earl Leonard of Cornelius, Oregon, grandmother, Inez Leonard of Las Vegas, Nevada, grandfather Francis Hougen of Williston, North Dakota and grandmother Mary Hougen of Williston, North Dakota.
Mike was a proud Chief Warrant Officer 2, serving 22 years in the United States Army, being stationed at various military installations throughout the United States and various overseas locations. After retiring from the US Army in 1993, Mike went on to work for Kellogg Brown and Root as a Manager of Government Property for locations throughout the world, leaving this position in 2016 to begin retirement, for real this time, with his wife. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, going to Las Vegas and maintaining complete command and control over the television remote.
There was a viewing and a remembrance gathering with the family from 11 am to 2 pm on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, Texas.
