Jeff Schubert VIEW PROFILE

Jeffrey D. Schubert, 65, of Williston, passed away due to spontaneous bacterial peritonitis at the Trinity Hospital in Minot on Sunday morning, August 30, 2020.

Born in Stanley ND, Jeff was the third of four children born to Dale and Frances (Novachek) Schubert. The family relocated to Williston in 1959. During his youth, Jeff loved to play hockey, as a teen he also worked alongside his father hauling hay and driving semis. Jeff graduated from Williston High School class of 1973. He attended college in UND-Williston where he earned an Associate of Art; continued his education in Grand Forks studying Aviation earning his pilot's license. Always the daredevil he enjoyed the rush of being up in the clouds; many days spent flying with his lifelong best buddy Loren Sandvold. United in marriage to Karen Mahlen on June 30, 1978 (divorced 1992) Jeff and Karen had two children, Fawna Aneshka born in 1978 followed closely by JD Anthony in 1980. Jeff was a born salesman. This led him at a young age, to become a successful real estate broker/owner of Schubert Realty along with his two sisters Jackie and Kim during the 1980’s oil boom. Later he worked as a car salesman at Stockman and Magrum Motors.

Jeff was hilarious and creative. In his prime he was intelligent and hard-working and the life of the party. Unfortunately, Jeff had an ongoing battle with alcoholism. He struggled with his addiction but had moments, sometimes years, of sobriety. The first time getting sober at age 50 maintaining his sobriety for over 5 years; which was a blessing as this was the same timeframe his granddaughter was battling a rare cancer. He made many trips to Seattle to be support for his daughter and granddaughter. He was also sober for the birth of his son's fraternal twins in 2017; giving him a grandson amongst all the granddaughters to carry on the Schubert name. Having time with Jeff as a sober man will be the memories we hold dear. Although a large part of his life was marred by his addiction, he spent the last couple months of his life sober. He was extremely proud of this. Jeff had made the unselfish decision to donate his body to the UND medical program to give the gift of learning to future medical professionals. His hope for his donation was that somehow the future doctors would gain insight into this devastating disease that plagued him and so many others. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, his wishes could not be fulfilled; his remains have been cremated.

Jeff is survived by his brother Steve (Patti) Schubert, sister Kim (Everette) Enno, daughter Fawna (Scot) Swanson and grandchildren Kayli, Ashlyn, Makenna Sivumaki, son JD (Cassandra) Schubert and grandchildren Ellaeiah, Emberleigh, Maxton Schubert. Many nieces, nephews, and extended family too numerous to name individually. Jeff was preceded in death by parents Dale and Fran Schubert and sister Jackie Roberts.
